How to do an NSDL PAN check status
There are two common ways to check an NSDL PAN application status: directly on the official NSDL portal (or the processing body you used) and via SMRPAN's status tools if you applied through our platform or your SMRPAN partner. Follow the steps below for a straightforward check.
- Locate your acknowledgement or coupon number
Your application acknowledgement (often called 'ack no.' or 'coupon no.') is the fastest way to look up status. Keep the number, applicant name and date of birth handy. - Visit the official NSDL status page or your application provider
Enter the acknowledgement number or the required fields on the NSDL e-Governance status page. If you applied through SMRPAN or a registered service partner, you can also check through the SMRPAN dashboard or tracking tool linked to your account. - Enter details and submit
Use the exact name and date of birth used on the application. Small mismatches in spelling can prevent a match. - Read the status carefully
Status messages may include: 'Under Process', 'Documents Pending', 'Dispatched', or 'Rejected'. Each message indicates a different next step — see guidance below. - Follow the next steps
If documents are missing, prepare correct copies. If rejected, review the rejection reason and resubmit or contact SMRPAN support for help.
Common status messages and what they mean
- Under Process — The application is being reviewed. Processing times vary depending on the channel used and document verification.
- Documents Pending or Deficiency — The verifier needs additional or corrected documents. Check the listed deficiency, upload corrected copies promptly or contact your service provider.
- Dispatched — PAN card (physical) has been posted. Track using the postal consignment number if provided.
- Rejected — The application was not accepted due to mismatched documents or incorrect information. Review the reason and correct the application before re-submitting.
What to have ready when checking status
- Acknowledgement / coupon number (if available)
- Applicant name exactly as on the application
- Date of birth and father’s name if requested
- Mobile number and email used during application (for OTP or updates)
If you don’t have the acknowledgement number, SMRPAN support or the centre where you applied may be able to help if you can provide personal details used in the application.
